Just How Heavy Are We Talking?

Every job is going to need a different trailer. If you’re looking at renting or purchasing a trailer, make sure you know how heavy your load is going to be-the trailer you need will depend on how much your load weighs. So you need to ask yourself: what do you need to haul?

Hauling Furniture, Boxes or Personal Possessions? Enclosed trailers are a popular option for businesses needing to move offices or transport cargo, especially if they do not have larger vehicles to pull a heavier trailer.

A standard 5’ by 8’ cargo trailer can hold a maximum of 816kg (1800lbs). These are generally used for hauling furniture or boxes in smaller quantities. The trailer itself weighs somewhere around 408kg (900lbs) and can be pulled by smaller, less powerful vehicles than the longer utility trailers need.

Hauling Cars? If, on the other hand, you need to transport a car from one place to another, there isn’t going to be an enclosed trailer out there that can handle the weight.

At J&J Trailers, you can find car trailers for sale that can carry up to six cars at a time. Of course, these longer trailers weigh up to 20 imperial tons, so you’ll need to take that into consideration when you find a suitable towing vehicle.

Hauling Heavy Equipment? Heavy industrial equipment can be hauled in a number of ways, but what trailer you choose depends entirely on how heavy the load is. A 12.5 m (41ft) Tag-A-Long Trailer GVWR can carry a load that ranges from 3,500 kg (7,000 lbs.) to 40,000 kg (88,184 lbs.) in weight, with a deck between wheels or a deck over the wheels. A 16m (53ft) gooseneck trailer can haul upwards of 50,000kg (110,000lbs), but you might need something more robust.

A utility trailer might be your best bet for larger equipment. At J&J Trailers, you can find a utility trailer in virtually any size you need. Once you know how much your equipment weighs, we can help you find the size and weight that works for you.

Deck over wheels, single axle, tandem axle, and even triple axle are all available. If we don’t have the trailer you’re looking for, we can custom make one to fit your needs and specifications.

Hauling Sand, Dirt or Sod? If you need to haul something that needs to be dumped, you have plenty of flexibility with weight. Dump box trailers come in all sizes, even up to 10 imperial tons. The smallest size we carry at J&J Trailers is 1.8 by 3 meters (6’ by 10’) or up to 2.6 to 6.1 meters (8’6” x 20ft.). Again, we can also custom make a trailer to fit your length and width requirements. The size of the trailer you need depends on the material you’re hauling and, of course, your tow vehicle’s capacity.
